What do you call the guy who brings a gun to a knopkierie fight?

Answer: The Winner.

What do you call it when private security guards “by mistake” kill some 20 people in a brutal shootout?

Answer: Murder. Culpable homicide.

When the police do it, there is no liability, and no one will be held to account. Just silence from the government and police.

Some images of the angry “mob” attacking the police force.

The local Marikana community know that what they have experienced in terms of police brutality is no different to the type seen under the nationalist apartheid regime. Reports news24.com:

Marikana – A hundred women danced in a dirt road on Friday, singing protest songs amid ramshackle wooden and corrugated metal shacks sitting over one of the world’s richest platinum deposits.

These songs were once directed at South Africa’s white apartheid government, but these women were singing to denounce their own police who fired on their striking menfolk, leaving 34 dead, the day before.

“The police came here to kill our husbands, our brothers. Here. Our children!” said 42-year-old Nokuselo Mciteni.

Note the police on site at Marikana who did the shooting were Special Task Force agents, not public order police. The latter are trained to control riots and protests, the STF agents are trained to kill and do other tasks of government. A source tells me he spoke to a public order police officer this morning, and they weren’t called out at all.

Governments might change colours, but they never change their stripes.

What you are not showing, is the strikers firing the first shots in your second last picture. Up till then the cops used rubber bullets, after the shots the cops opened fire. No sympathy for lonim strikers , who btw, killed 10 people prior to the shoot out in the most barberic ways. Hacked them to death, set them alight, AND even cut out their jawbones while they were alive.

PS , look for the Al Jazeera Camera Angle on youtube for a detailed acount of events, and to get clear evidence that your innocent miners arent so innocent after all….

Sure David, you keep telling yourself that. Whatever makes you sleep at night. http://dailymaverick.co.za/article/2012-08-30-the-murder-fields-of-marikana-the-cold-murder-fields-of-marikana
