Why Is WP Sorry For Throwing Money To Their Fans?

The WP rugby team during their victory parade this week threw R50 notes to fans in Khayelitsha who apparently asked for it because they were hungry, reports sport24.com.

“According to Wednesday’s Cape Argus newspaper, radio callers and presenters voiced a range of opinions on the matter, with some saying it was in poor taste and patronising,” reports sport24. WP Rugby Union president Thelo Wakefield thereafter apologised for the incident.

This is exactly what the government does, only worse, because it takes taxpayer incomes and throws it out to poor people in the form of social grants and subsidies. At least the province rugby players were throwing their own incomes out to the people, and didn’t steal someone else’s before pretending it to be hand-outs coming from their own salaries.

UPDATE: As Gareth Brickman just pointed out to me: It is probably these same Capetonians who feel the province players’ charity was in poor taste, who give the most to beggars at traffic lights. Go figure.
