Trevor Manuel said last week that politicians need to learn economics. Reported Business Day: “Mr Manuel said the ANC needed to encourage its members to learn the basic fundamentals of economics to improve the economic debate.”

Yet the minister of the presidency and chief of the national development (central) plan is reported to have made the following statement soon after news broke that the ANC is planning a dole for youths.

Manuel said the youth had to drop the “entitlement attitude” and that “There’s no entitlement in life. We’ve got to get over that issue of entitlement.”

How can you expect the youth to drop their entitlement attitude if you and the state are now entitling them to more of the taxpayer’s income? Puhlease Trevor, you’re the one who needs to learn basic economics.
